Kolkata: Woman mowed down by bus

A 34-year-old woman, Reshma Hela, who was riding pillion with her husband was killed on Tuesday afternoon when the bike was hit by a bus at Kankurgachhi crossing in north Kolkata. The accident took place around 3.25pm when the bus was reportedly racing past a traffic signal the moment it had turned green. The driver, Rafikul Islam (32) sped away after the accident, but the bus plying on the route 44 (between Howrah and Baguiati) was stopped near Ultadanga crossing. He was arrested and charged under IPC sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 A (causing death by negligence).
