Cops seek legal opinion on bus attack payout

The Hastings police have arrested a bandh supporter who allegedly threw stones at a government bus near Hastings crossing on Wednesday morning. The cops said they have slapped a stringent section of the Prevention of Damage to Property Act. However, what has made this case unique in Kolkata is that cops have sought legal opinion on whether the amended sections of the West Bengal Maintenance of Public Order (Amendment) Bill, 2017, can be used against the accused, which will compel him to pay for the damage.
