Rs 1,542 crore for five Kolkata Metros in budget

The five ongoing Metro projects in the city have together been allotted Rs 1,542 crore in the 2020-21 Budget — slightly less than the Rs 1,640 crore given last year — with the East-West Metro bagging almost 60% of the funds. The pattern of allocation followed last year’s template with projects showing progress receiving more, explaining why the East-West Metro, Phase-I of which will be commissioned on February 13, received Rs 905 crore and the New Garia-Airport link only Rs 328 crore.
